Bayan joins calls for mass actions and mobilizations nationwide on June 12, Philippine Independence Day.
Our country today is not truly free. We are confronted with the problems of foreign intervention on one hand, from China trying to claim the West Philippine Sea, and on the other hand from the US trying to re-establish their bases under a one-sided defense agreement. The people also face worsening economic hardships from higher taxes and low wages. The threat of an open fascist dictatorship remains as the regime imposes one repressive measure after another. It is important for the people to remember the patriotism of our forefathers and continue the fight for genuine freedom and democracy. Let Independence Day be a time to make a stand against the anti-people and anti-national policies of the Duterte regime.
We ask Filipinos to gather in public areas, including monuments of our heroes, so that they may express their outrage over the state of the nation today. ###
