Review | “Spider-Man: Lotus” is an Insult to Spider-Man

Spoilers beware, because there’s no way I can talk about this movie without mentioning the things that happen in it.

No, this is not a major Hollywood Spider-Man production that released worldwide. This is a fan film that I was asked to watch (although I really, really didn’t want to). Most of you probably don’t know the controversy behind Spider-Man: Lotus; how its director, Gavin J. Konop, and main actor, Warden Wayne, were shown making racist and hateful comments in their past (as well as seemingly endless BTS drama). I’m not interested in that. What I AM interested in is reviewing Konop’s passion project and, more importantly, why it’s the worst Spider-Man movie I’ve had the displeasure of seeing (before you say I’m being harsh, this thing was crowdfunded and given $100,000 dollars. I’ve seen better done with far less).

The fan film sees Peter Parker dealing with the death of Gwen Stacy — to whom he planned to propose — at the hands of Green Goblin. While this is happening, Peter, as Spider-Man, visits a sickly boy named Tim (adapting the comic story The Kid Who Collects Spider-Man). As Peter deals with the death of Gwen in his own way, Harry is recovering from the death of his father Norman Osborn alongside MJ, who’s just sad about everybody. Everyone is sad, everyone is dying, and everything is awful. Kinda like this…
