Today marks an important milestone on the Pantos roadmap. With the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH), another leading research institute is joining CDL-BOT. This partnership brings additional expertise and resources as well as entirely new research disciplines, which we are now able to tackle with new researchers joining our communal laboratory. As CDL-BOT is a team effort, all company and research partners were given a stage to share their opinions on the expansion. Read on to hear more insights, follow the structural changes and find out more about this exciting update.

As our firm belief of giving something back to the community has always been of the highest importance to us, we are proud to announce that just one year after the opening of CDL-BOT by the Austrian Minister of Digital and Economic Affairs, Dr. Margarete Schramböck, we are further expanding our (already) strong position by welcoming another world-class university and additional renowned researchers to our joint scientific efforts.

Expansion of CDL-BOT into two Modules adds new angles to our research

Starting with the new structure, there will now be two modules in CDL-BOT. Module one, “Cross-Blockchain Transactions” will be based at Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH) and led by Professor Stefan Schulte. Module two, “Lightweight Blockchain Protocols”, will be based at TU Wien and led by Professor Matteo Maffei. We are very happy to welcome Matteo aboard: as a highly-renowned blockchain researcher with a wealth of expertise in applied cryptography and security analysis, he brings new angles to our research.

Our head of CDL-BOT, Professor Stefan Schulte, is also very pleased to welcome his long-standing colleague: “I am very happy about the addition of a second module to CDL-BOT. I have been following Matteo’s research closely for years and I am looking forward to working with him and his team. With his excellent background in applied cryptography and security analysis, he is bringing in additional expertise in a field which is highly relevant for the success of the laboratory”.

Professor Matteo Maffei is also very pleased about the opportunity to join CDL-BOT: “I am really looking forward to joining this exciting research endeavour. My research interests in the blockchain domain focus on the interoperability, scalability, security and privacy of payment systems and smart contracts, which are also at the core of CDL-BOT. In particular, I see my expertise in off-chain protocols and smart contract verification techniques as an opportunity to complement and enrich the groundbreaking research already conducted within CDL-BOT. I am thrilled to collaborate with Stefan, a blockchain researcher with strong system expertise and two internationally-renowned and extraordinarily-innovative organisations, like Pantos and the IOTA Foundation”.

Pantos remains company partner with both our CEO, Paul Klanschek and our Project Lead, Philip Gahler, delighted to see CDL-BOT expanding

Pantos as a subsidiary of Bitpanda, Europe’s leading neobroker, has been a strong advocate of CDL-BOT since its inception and is proud to see new universities joining and recognising the importance of blockchain interoperability.

Our CEO, Paul Klanschek, is also pleased about the expansion: “Looking back on the inception of Pantos back in 2018, I couldn’t be prouder of what we have achieved so far. Last year, by being awarded a Christian Doppler Laboratory — one of the highest honours in the Austrian research landscape — we already reached a major milestone. Now, by adding a second world-class university in addition to the TU Wien and with Matteo, another renowned professor alongside Stefan, we even surpassed that. So, I am really delighted to see CDL-BOT evolving even further and to share the latest outcomes with our community”.

Complementing Paul’s words, our project lead Philip Gahler, who has been working in close cooperation with Stefan and Matteo to prepare the expansion puts it as follows: “With both Stefan and Matteo being leading experts in their respective fields, CDL-BOT really is at the forefront of researching blockchain interoperability. As the collaboration with TU Wien has been a success story from day one, we are convinced to see this joint journey evolving further now with TUHH as our second partner. On a personal note, I am honoured to manage and to now expand one of the leading initiatives on blockchain interoperability and to have the opportunity to work with such great colleagues on a day-to-day basis. Finally, I am confident that the additional number of researchers now linked to CDL-BOT will push us further towards solving open research questions”.

Pantos and IOTA will host IOTA Talk this year

Pantos is delighted to continue its collaboration and open exchange with the IOTA Foundation, the organisation behind one of the leading Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) protocols.

There will be a joint AMA with Philip Gahler, Project Lead at Pantos, Dominik Schiener, co-founder of the IOTA Foundation, and Professor Stefan Schulte, Head of CDL-BOT, on how the CDL-BOT expansion can drive innovation within the DLT space even further. Watch out for more details and the exact date!

As both, Pantos and CDL-BOT, represent joint research efforts, we are glad to share Dominik Schiener’s views on the expansion of the collaboration as well: “The new possibilities enabled through our partnership with the Christian Doppler Laboratory Blockchain Technologies for the Internet of Things (CDL-BOT) will help us to achieve our underlying vision of providing the most suitable Distributed Ledger Technology for the Internet of Things. Working with a cryptographer, we will be able to cover certain aspects of DLT that were previously hard to reach — building the best solutions for everyone”.

Ultimately, we couldn’t be prouder to continue this success story with all existing stakeholders and new, extremely valuable partners joining our project. This is yet another major step for Bitpanda and Pantos. Together with our new partners, we are confident of reaching new milestones.
