Projects

Upcoming Events

The Arena Summit — Philadelphia, this weekend: A convening of rising civic leaders from across the country to make a plan to rebuild our republic based on the values of love, respect, inclusion, and dignity. Tickets available here.

She the People — San Francisco, Sept 20: A summit featuring the nation’s most exciting progressive women of color leaders on the ballot, championing movements, and driving winning political strategy. Tickets available here.

The Last Weekend — Nationwide, Nov 3–6: The most effective way to get people to vote is by having conversations with them in the four days before Election Day. The Last Weekend is mobilizing people to do exactly that.

Midterms

Last month, we launched a Facebook Messenger platform that allows our members to ask their friends to commit to vote, and we plan to reach 1 million people on Election Day. You’ll also get some cool stories and features once in a while, (we had early access to the trailed for On the Basis of Sex — a feature film about Ruth Bader Ginsburg). Sign up to vote and spread the word here!

To support our Get Out The Vote efforts this fall, we’re partnering with Omaze on a new Hear Me Vote tee shirt design, which is now on sale for a limited time. 100% of proceeds support our nonprofit and our GOTV plans — purchase yours before they sell out!

MobilizeAmerica connects campaigns with volunteers across the country. You can find phone and text banks, canvasing opportunities and events. Sign up for a shift — MobilizeAmerica makes it easy.

Our list of official Pantsuit Nation Chapters continues to grow! Chapters invest in their communities and support progressive actions that have real local impact. You can find our list of over 70 chapters on our website, and if there isn’t one listed in your area, we have an incredible team of women who can work with you to start your own!

Coming Soon

Cortney recently recorded a short video series with Resistance School about how to turn your online activism to offline action. The video will launch soon — but until then check out the other amazing trainings Resistance School has to offer!

Calls to Action

#StopKavanaugh, #SaveSCOTUS

The Senate Judiciary Committee is currently conducting hearings on the Supreme Court nomination of Brett Kavanaugh. Kavanaugh is a direct threat to women’s rights, workers rights, abortion rights, voting rights, LGBTQIA rights and more. And he may very well be deciding whether President Trump must testify in the Mueller investigation — and we know from his record that he thinks the president should be above the law. This man cannot be on the Supreme Court. 5calls.org has a Kavanaugh confirmation tracker where you can see where each and every Senator stands on the confirmation. Check to see where your Senator stands. Call your Senators no matter where they are on the confirmation tracker, and ask friends who live in states in the “Undecided” column to call theirs! We need ever Senator we can get!

Support the Prison Strike

Men and women incarcerated in prisons across the country have been striking since August 21st. The organizers of the strike have 10 demands which include ending prison slavery (the practice of using prisoners as free or nearly free labor for corporations), increasing access to educational and rehabilitation programs, and sentencing reform. Read the full list of the strikers demands, and check out this Teen Vogue article to learn more about the strike: How the Ongoing Prison Strike is Connected to the Labor Movement.

Call your legislators and demand they merge and pass two active bills — the First Step Act and the Senate the Sentencing Reform and Corrections Act — as a step in the right direction to reform our criminal justice system.

Children and Families Separated at the Border

More than a month after the deadline to reunite separated families, there are still more than 500 kids still without their parents or guardians. Where the Trump Administration has failed, Americans across the country are filling the gap with an outpouring of compassion. Families Belong Together is continuing the fight to reunite these families. To be kept up to date on the fight and to get alerts for what you can do, text BELONG to 97779. And keep the pressure on your representatives. They can put pressure on the Secretary of Homeland Security, Kirstjen Nielsen, to make a plan to reunite these families. The Trump administration created this humanitarian crisis, and they won’t end it unless we keep the pressure on.

Puerto Rico Response

It’s now be almost a year since Hurricane Maria devastated the island of Puerto Rico — recently the official number of people who have lost their lives because of the hurricane has been amended to 2,975 from the original official number of 64. But even that number has been reported as low.

House and Senate legislators have introduced legislation to establish a “9/11 style” eight-member bipartisan independent commission to study the federal government’s preparedness in responding to Hurricanes Irma and Maria. Ask your Members of Congress to Investigate the Federal Response to the Puerto Rico Hurricanes.

DACA

One of our first episodes of the podcast gave us a chance to talk to Cheska Perez, a young women who volunteered for the Clinton campaign, and who is headed to college. Cheska is also a DACA recipient. Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) is still not safe — and while there have been court victories that have upheld DACA recipients rights to renew, and meant that new people can apply, this administration can still take away those protections. We need a legislative solution to DACA, and we need it now. We needed it last year. Should Kavanaugh get confirmed, DACA will be on the table and will certainly be ended. Make your calls to Demand Congress Support a Legislative Fix for DACA.

Thanks for listening to the podcast and thank you for taking action!
