Hey Pantsuit Nation,

I’m Gina, the producer of the podcast, Call Your Girlfriend. This is the first in a series of posts in collaboration with the Pantsuit Nation founders on women-led podcasts. Brags ahead because I’m so proud of what we as a small, women-run business do:

Call Your Girlfriend is a podcast for long-distance besties everywhere, hosted by real life BFFs Ann Friedman and Aminatou Sow. We highlight women who are agents, creators, movers, and shakers, who have smart, interesting things to say. We also care deeply about the lived experiences of non-famous women who are just trying to get through the week. We’re here for every facet of women’s humanity.

In this time when women have to turn to the press en masse to be heard, when we need campaigns that insist black lives deserve dignity and women’s stories merit belief, the whole ~project~ of existing can be exhausting, right? Our show is about talking in our real voices. We are joyful. We complain. We use the word “like,” like, okay? Women sharing their experiences with each other is a potentially life-changing act (see also: THIS GROUP!). It’s also really fucking fun.

We believe that representation matters in politics. We were lucky to interview Hillary Clinton recently (though we wish it had been at the White House). We also stand firmly behind the wave of women candidates. We started a series on women and politics this year which features experts from EMILYs List and Run for Something, first-time candidates for local and federal office, and women who now hold office. On our latest installment, we feature some ****good news**** about women who are WINNING, from recent races in Montana, Oklahoma, Minnesota, Virginia and Kansas, to interviews with New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and Mass. Rep. Katherine Clark. These public servants are fighting for women’s dignity on college campuses, in the military, online, and on Capitol Hill.

We also believe that representation matters in media. The recent podcast boom has been a boon for progressives looking to hear our voices and views reflected. But have you noticed how dude-bro-dominated all the usual podcast recommendations are? We’re proud of what we do every week, and there are so many dope podcasts hosted by women. Here are a few of our favorites:
