Dear Paper Poetry friends,

I’m sitting at my computer wondering how to start this prompt announcement story. I’m not ashamed to admit I’m a little lost for words and ideas. I don’t know about you, but for me, getting started is often the hardest thing about writing.

A blank computer screen is not a great source of inspiration. I look around the room, out the window, and then back to my desk where my eyes lock onto my freshly made coffee and a toasted English muffin smeared with triple berry jam.

Ah, that’s it! The humble English muffin that’s not really English at all!

But it is bread!

And bread was what our poets sunk their literary teeth into for our September prompt, Basically Bread.

The prompt produced a stunning variety of responses which I hope you will treat yourself to here —

🥨 For My Parents — by A. Gee
🥨 Bread and Poetry — by Sherry Atkinson
🥨 Brunching by the Seine in the Sun — by Carolyn Hastings
🥨 The Heavenly Aroma I Cannot Resist — by zizi majid
🥨 A Lifelong Love Affair with an Enemy — by Emily Gibson
🥨 Our Daily Bread
