The world is topsy turvy
Roller coaster up and down
End the year on a high note
Sparkles everywhere

Greetings to our wonderful Paper Poetry community,

Welcome to the latest edition of our mini-newsletter, Paper Poetry Memo. I hope it finds you on top of your world right now. It’s the best place to be. It’s where I would like to be, but to be honest, I’m having a hard time getting there. It’s been a tough year. I know I’m not alone in saying that.

In the past year, I’ve been pushed out of my comfort zone in more ways than one. It’s not a nice feeling, but I know it’s what I need if I am to learn, grow and become a stronger person — a better, sparkling version of myself. ✨

Writing on Medium and interacting with our vibrant community of readers and writers has been a highlight for me. A Godsend more like it. I know I’m not alone in saying that.

I’ve learned many forms of poetry that I never knew existed. Poetry with weird and wonderful names like mantinades, stornello, tanaga, shadorma, and dodoitsu. The topsy turvy micro poem at the top of the newsletter is an example of a dodoitsu — an unrhymed Japanese form with a 7/7/7/5 syllable scheme.

I know I have much to be grateful for. It’s a blessing just to be here, and yet I find myself wishing for more. My wish is a simple one — that we all end the year on a high note so that we can sparkle together. ✨ 💕
