A blackout poem

White water
pale, semicircular
mother-of-pearl
hilarity
moving waves
swift-cutting
sliced sails
dunes far away
partly communing with a sky
an earth
hung round
his natural air.
This is a blackout poem from a leaf of Virginia Woolf’s To The Lighthouse. Her lyrical prose lends itself to the arms of poetry effortlessly. You can pick any page from this book, and you’ll find you can weave from her fine tapestry of words your own poem.
