gifted borrowed scavenged
a life loosely laced together
like shattered seashells strewn
on the shore in a storm

sweet café sachet stash
spilled into squat sugar crock
a miss-match of mixing spoons
whisked into a nameless someone’s pot

and yonder out-of-sight
reprieved from the scrapheap
stoneware dinner plates
a wibble-wobble handled microwave
the kettle that’s done overtime
and a cast-off Breville toaster
stacked in a cast-off bookshelf
to serve as my open pantry

Yay, they still work!

I see them all here
mirrored in the counter splashback
yet in the still of silence
a moment of disorientation
jolting into surreal
like a flashback
to a life not my own
