They cut me from a bough of Tree
With chiseled adze they fashioned me
A symbol of a human’s heart,
reminds of caring, while apart.

The thing that I have now become
recalls the kiss of Summer sun,
the flight of leaves in Autumn fall,
the haunting sound of wildlife call.

This heart bleeds sad upon a hook
for warbling birds and babbling brook.
Oh, how I miss the bud of Spring —
this ache to be a living thing!

Fashioned in the shape of love, no longer can I breathe,
nor feel the soil around my roots — the rain upon my leaves.
A symbol of a human’s love, tacked upon a wall
This wooden heart no longer feels the siren Nature’s call.
