The Country life — decade ago,
Peaceful serenity.
Crows, cockies, king parrots plenty,
And Sweet Spangled Drongo

Plumage glossy deep emerald green,
A mimic of all heard.
Hovers for hand-held gifts proffered,
Flutters sunlight on feathers’ sheen.

Lovely migrating visitor,
Several months daily come,
Fly in, fly out on summer sun,
Comical joy outdoors.

And then we left, both you and I,
To seek horizons new,
What would become, we neither knew,
We never said goodbye.

Years plodded on. A decade? More?
City suburb garden,
Little drongo swooped in sudden —
To say not said before?

“Drongo” — Australian slang for “idiot”
