What do goldfinch sing
as they swoop through morning skies
to thrill and serenade us?

Look beyond yourself
soar above remnants of night
to revel in today’s gifts.

Where do maple leaves
hide their vibrant autumn hues
during verdant summer months?

Reds and orange snuggle
behind sun-bathed leaves, waiting
to astound with their beauty.

MONDO:- 5–7–7

Mondo poems are often very brief collaborative affairs that present a question and answer in the style of trying to glean meaning from nature. Mondos can be as short as a one-liner or as long as two 5–7–7 syllable stanzas (the first stanza presenting the question; the second the answer).

This is my first attempt writing a Mondo poem, the Japanese form of poetry with specific syllable and line count. What appeals to me is that these poems can use nature to play a “question and answer game” as well as broadening our perspective of what Nature teaches us.
No clue if I hit the goal with these short poems, but I certainly enjoyed the process!
I am so grateful for discoveries on Medium that continue to challenge me to dive deeper into writing.
