Walking is a great exercise, even a leisure stroll on a lazy day!
Then there’s the race walking event at the Olympics. It’s weird to watch, and it is all about the hips. Of course, strong legs are a must, but the movement comes from the rotating hips, which almost seems like a dancing walk.
One foot must always be in contact with the ground in race walking, distinguishing the sport from running. The race walking event was first introduced for men at the 1908 London Olympics, and subsequently, the women’s race walking event was introduced. You can read more about it here.
