I looked into the mirror today

and my mother’s eyes

smiled back at me.

I touched my wavy strands of hair

and almost felt

my father’s silver strands.

I stretched out my hands

in just that certain way

and my sister held out hers to me.

Invisible to others,

who do not know my past,

yet standing here,

surrounding me,

are those who walked before.

I looked into the mirror today

and reconnected with who I am.
