Pouring inspiration from my pot of tea (pen drawing by the author)

Pouring inspiration from my pot of tea,
in an armchair on a balcony
and leaves fiddle-diddle.
In high spirits, feelin’ falcony,
I solve my science riddle.

I need inspiration —
just pour another cup of teau!
Right then the word came up:
Teaspiration, a portmanteau!

I have written this poem when we were confined in a small flat during one of the lockdowns. At that time having a space just for yourself was a big asset for many parents, and I was no exception. Till then, we have not used our balcony a lot, but that was about to change … just like many other things. Luckily, the weather was permitting enough to set up now and then a temporary office there and release some creative steam.

Tea is to me like a small package of a tiny bit of nature that you can take with you to enjoy its scents, taste and calmness. One afternoon there on the balcony it has given rise to a new portmanteau — a compound word stitched together from two other words and my favorite wordplay — and a short poem about it.

This was about a year ago, when I started writing occasional poetry, and when I started reading Paper Poetry.

Happy anniversary, wishing lots of nice inspiration!

This poem was originally published on my Tumblr blog PhLiArS. After one year, I had some ideas on how to make a few small changes, but I later decided not to and keep it as it was, keep it a bit rough and authentic.
