“MEC is an emotion”….

Words that echoed in every MECian’s hearts as they strode through the campus filled with an unexpectedly huge viewing crowd. Those days of Layatharang showed up emotions mixed with the essence of love, care, competition, tears, pain, stress and a lot more… Yes, MEC is indeed an emotion that brings up the heart and soul of every MECian to its peak.

Layatharang was built upon the joy and tears of many days of vigorous practice. Though lost classes, missed hangouts and over exertion caused the newbie students to feel disheartened many a times and want to take a ruthless decision to back off from arts, the coming years, it all eventually turned into drops of tears, missing their house crew members as they stepped out of the stage. Those hearts yearned, “only if Layatharang lasted a bit longer”. What worked out was true magic of hard work and dedication.

The air flowing during this Layatharang and Chakravyuh were painted with five vibrant colours. Rakshasa, the elegant blue, Dhruva, a vibrant orange, Samhara, deeply purple and Thandava, a mighty red. Above all, there were the Aryans who protected and rode the entire battalion under their black and white wings.

Chakravyuh was always a breath taking time for every house, the coordinators, as well as the participants. Neither the hot sun nor dry throats could reduce the volume of cheering that raised the real competition. Cramps and pain were just mere words in front of the true spirit of every sportsman. The crowd stood still, gaping at the scoreboard as Rakshasa soared up their points and became the champions of Chakravyuh!

The entire month of Layatharang including offstage events, practice sessions and the last 3 days of fully packed onstage events were all beads of a single string of hard work, by people on and off the stages and behind and on the screens. Behind every visual we saw and voice we heard, there were unseen faces and unheard voices…

The time span of Layatharang can be seen through different angles.

The hour of challenge

The Senate inauguration witnessed a discrete division of MEC into five portions. All the houses were at the peak of excitement and joy which made controlling them even difficult.”Kappadikanam” was the only emotion that held MEC… Kerala blasters was always an inspiration for all the malayalees.

The hour of unrewarded hard work

There were some people behind the screens who worked their hearts out to conduct the events, manage the results, and arrange the judges within the low budget of the senate(As we all know, it’s us and it’s MEC). Those people stereotyped as the ”non-beneficieries” of arts, were having their own chill zones. Their way of eating food from the food boxes directly without plates is really fun. Aryans had been the backbone of Layatharang.

The hour of empty benches

Sympathy was the prominent emotion shown to the ‘core and prio’ members by their fellow classmates as their attendance bar went red. Many ‘mavelis’ were generated during those days and there was a situation where we had to take appointments to see those people. But those moments that included practice bloopers, kulukki sarbath treats, discussions in royal bakery and much more were worth all the lost attendance.

The last slice of cake

Well begun and ended with the colourful 3 days of Layatharang. The major events in the main and internal auditorium were accompanied with the fun of valentine’s day special programs, mainly for the singles (‘single pasange’ song was played like a tablet dose) along with the anonymous love letter boxes. The sandwich making and selling competition was conducted parallelly adding more spice.

After all, the whole of arts was not about winning the cup and cheering at last, those days shall remind us of a golden age in future.
