The past few years have been quite monotonous.

In the -study there’s an exam at the end- kind-of sense. Precisely the reason, why I wished for a year with surprises. A year with sparks, different from its formers.

Enter 2020.

Ttadaaaa! Thank you, thank you!

2020 has already been such a roller coaster and we are not even half way into it. It’s been dark. People dead. Millions jobless. Economy depressed. I cant even step out of my house..!

And it’s been bright.

I am Home! With my loved ones, eating my favourite food, doing whatever I like to do…!

One thing in common to both the sides though, is the (bad)minton that one’s brain and mind have been playing together.

Retrospection has never been so powerful. And that is what gives me hope. 2020 might just be the change for the greater good! And since you’ve all been thinking, let me introduce you to the professor!

Professor who?

Hold on, let’s take a test savvy? (as usual, you don’t have a choice.. hheeehee)

Why do you study? (To get a job?)

Why do you want a job?(Moneeeyyy? You want to make a lot of money and ensure that you and your family live a great life?)

If its money that you want, then why not explore other ways?(You wouldn’t steal/deprive someone of his/her life to build your own? Because you want nothing to do with guilt? Against your moral policy?)

Behold, the professor!

Quarantine.

Just another day.

There I was scrolling through my Instagram feeds and every now and then a guy in a suit with a beard and spectacles pops up. Professor who? He’s got a PhD or what? What’s so special about Money Heist anyway?

Guess what! Here I am:

Welcome to my analysis of Money heist and its popularity.

La Casa de Papel aka Money Heist revolves around the professor who unites a group of people with criminal records, hardships and losses throughout their lives, to carry out his perfect plan.

What plan?

A plan he took several years to come up with. A plan to make just a 24 hundred million euros without any financial loss to the commoner!

How?

By seizing the Royal Mint of Spain (which has a currency printing machinery) and printing their own currency while keeping the police and security forces at bay!

Impressed?

He’s only started!

He wants to carry out this plan without any killing and with the support of the people!

Confused?

That’s the kick, what makes the heist special:

The state the viewer finds to be in. No killings, no commoner suffers any loss. Is the plan morally right or is it wrong ?

The state is made further complex when the professor says that the mint has printed currency in the name of liquidity injections, the bulk of which has not gone into the economy! Is it right to have one rule for the authorities and one rule for the commons? Is it wrong to long for happiness when you have been crushed by your past? Is it wrong to dream big?

Couple this to the fact that many in different parts of the world live in poverty. Can’t this money be used productively?

Isn’t this heist a way of actual liquid injection of the printed money into the economy?

This is what the professor intends. He aims at giving out a message of resistance to the public against such illegal yet legal doings of the authorities, which is also reflected in the folk Bella Ciao.

And bingo!

You’ve understood why it has become so popular.

The transformation of the gang, from complete strangers with city names, to risking their lives for each other is one of the main highlights of the series. This can be further seen in the union of the gang to save one of their own, who was illegally detained and punished by the forces.

You know what’s further impressive?

The naturality of the series is quite extraordinary, be it the reaction of the hostages, the police or the on-the-spot decisions made by the gang. Even the professor himself, despite having spent years working on his perfect plan, steers off from it just like any ordinary man would.

Can you believe it?

The series also analyses different aspects of love, betrayals, gay relationships, transitioning and criminal rights through its different parts. Add to this the wonderful blend of music..ah..

What was the definition of your perfect series again?

So, if you’re interested in crime dramas, or want something to think about during Quarantine, you know what to do!

«Tutte le genti che passeranno,

O bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao, ciao, ciao,

Tutte le genti che passeranno

Mi diranno: Che bel fior!»

You in a Red jumpsuit, wearing a Dali mask, holding an M16? Don’t get me started!
