The Little Things

All the leaves in the monsoon

Covered in drops of dew,

Or those rare nights when the sky

Is a shade of purple and blue.

The feeling you get when the tides

Wash away the sand from your feet,

Or that very instant when your heart

Involuntarily misses a beat.

The touch of an infant

Just a few hours old,

Or the smell of the cake

You baked on your own.

The way the moon appears

A dazzling shade of silver,

Or a cup of hot chocolate,

In your bed, in the winter.

The sound of rain,

Pouring against your windows,

Or the joy of breaking good news

That nobody as yet knows.

Listening to music,

That you haven't listened to in ages,

Or your precious drawing book,

Running out of pages.

We no longer pause,

To reflect on the beauty,

That lies right in front

Of our unfocused eyes.

But the truth is that all,

The exquisite things in life,

Aren’t only under the oceans

Or up above in the skies.
