Alice got inside her Mustang and drove as fast as she could. The hitmen pursued her, and she feared the consequences of being caught.

“Now isn’t a time to be a stickler for rules”, she said to herself as she sped through the streets.

The hitmen were right behind her, following her Mustang with precision. Being someone who watched a lot of spy-action thrillers, Alice knew what had to be done—make confusing turns here and there to keep them off her trail.

As she continued to do so, she kept thinking “Why did I have to end up at the wrong place at the wrong time?”.

The morning that this adventure started was a day like any other; little did Alice know it would turn out to be an eventful one.

Alice woke up late and rushed her morning routine as she was late for her meeting with her best friend, Julia Dubois, who was now the mayor. Julia was doing Alice a favor by agreeing to do an interview with her for her blog. Alice didn’t want to keep her friend waiting, who kept aside her plethora of responsibilities for her bestie.

Alice drove to Town Hall and was only 5 minutes late, fortunately. The best friends did some catch-up, and then Alice started interviewing Julia about her being the mayor, what she plans to do for the town, and also adding in some gossip for her blog. The interview went well, and the friends bid each other goodbye. Alice went to freshen up in the powder room when she heard some noises.

There were sounds of gunfire and screaming. Alice opened the door a little to peek through. She saw that some hitmen had entered by breaking the window and had killed Julia’s security guards and those running towards her for her protection. Alice was in shock but pulled through it to take out her phone and stream the visuals on her blog.

“You will never be our mayor!”, said the head hitman, who then shot Julia, tied up in her chair, right in the head. Alice nearly dropped her phone and screamed, but somehow controlled her emotions enough to not alarm them of her presence.

As the hitmen started retreating, she heard them say, “Now Andrei will reign.”. Andrei was Julia’s opposition during the elections. Alice never thought that he would be so cruel as to enforce such a gruesome crime against Julia. Alice stopped recording with that.

When the coast was clear, Alice stepped out of the powder room and decided to get down the emergency exit stairs by the balcony. The hitmen had just entered the elevator, so it would take some time for them to catch up to her. She went down the stairs as fast as she could and ran towards her Mustang. One of the hitmen, who was by their vehicle, caught sight of her and alerted the others. He started their Hummer and started the pursuit.

Alice was an experienced driver and knew her streets well. The twists and turns she made to divert the hitmen didn’t stop her from leading them to their doom.

As she was driving, an FBI agent called her up and asked her to lead the hitmen towards the City Dump, the landfill of the city. Suspicious at first, and with no other option to escape the hitmen, she trusted the agent, named Agent Burke, to keep her safe. With him and his team tracking her with their satellite and helping her make sense of her moves, she led them to the City Dump. But fate had other plans for her.

The hitmen were still on her trail, but just as she neared the City Dump, a hitman got a clear shot at her tires. Alice had no other option but to jump from the vehicle and run. She hid herself inside a large garbage bin, contacted Agent Burke, and informed him of the situation. He asked her to somehow guide them to the dump and said that they would help her move while being hidden from the hitmen. Alice connected one of her wireless earphones so that she could be on line with Agent Burke.

Alice avoided detection by the hitmen as she moved towards the dump. Some had gotten off the Hummer in pursuit of her. Alice sneakily and steadily neared the dump. She found a box of what looked like theater costumes and props in an alleyway. She wore a wig, discarded her jacket and boots, which smelled of garbage, and wore a fedora, a long jacket, and sneakers she found on Agent Burke’s suggestion. She then walked in the direction of the dump, knowing the hitmen wouldn’t recognize her easily.

She reached the gate of the City Dump, but then she noticed that the hitmen had called backup. The odds weren’t looking good for Alice, as one of their Hummers was right by the City Dump gate. She entered the dump and proceeded to remove her disguise. She yelled, “Looking for me?” and ran with all her might.

The FBI had placed sting operators atop the hills of garbage and around the dump. The hitmen followed Alice in their Hummers. Sting operators covered Alice and shot the tires of their Hummers. The hitmen ran toward Alice with their guns. One of them fired at her. Alice managed to dodge it and ran to the spot where the majority of the sting operators were so that they could capture the hitmen. More bullets followed with Alice managing to dodge them all. As she heaved with relief, a bullet scraped right through her. Right through her right knee, that is, leaving her in pain and unable to walk. Luckily for her, the sting operators were able to fire their electric nets over them, leaving them immobilized.

Alice was taken to the hospital, but the injury caused her right leg to be paralyzed. Agent Burke told her that a fanatic sent the hitmen because he really wanted Andrei to win the election. A new election was proposed to select the new mayor and a new candidate won the election who named the Town Hall after Julia in her memory, as Julia was able to create a huge impact in the short span of time she reigned as their mayor.

Alice was awarded a Medal of Courage for her help in capturing the hitmen, as they were part of a larger clan of anarchists, which helped Intelligence agencies around the world track and stop them in their tracks. Alice became an inspiration to many around the world to speak up about the injustices in their societies.

Alice now lives her life with a smile, knowing her story has created a revolution against the unjust.
