Biweekly update 10th March — 24th March

Hello to all æternists! The project continues to operate properly, even during such stressful times of COVID-19 pandemic. Some of the events were postponed, some were turned into virtual ones, but nothing immensely shuts down. The work is ongoing! The development side of the project is æxceptionally vivid. The team continues to upgrade, enhance, and contribute. Recently, the development has started on the æternity Stablecoin with the underlying idea to have a token that represents 1 USD. DAI will back the stablecoin, so they can use the whole MakerDAO infrastructure and expand it to be compatible with the æternity network. The progress is accurately shared in the Forum thread — check it to get acquainted with this wonderful idea. Furthermore, the documentation on æternity’s Sophia was moved to a new location in order to keep the docs and the compiler in sync. Apart from this, wællet v0.5.1 was released, introducing æx2 support, bugfixes, .chain names feature updates and performance upgrades.

æmbassadors organized some events before mass events’ cancellations and rescheduling. Among them was Stephen Sunday, educating the next generation of æternity Sophia developers at the University of Jos, Nigeria. Another fantastic performance was given by Manel Ruiz, who introduced æternity’s oracles during Barcelona Tech Spirit, the event created as a response to the cancellation of the World Mobile Congress of Barcelona. Ugandan æmbassador, Kabeterein Rodgers, held a successful meetup at Bishop Stuart University, where students learned all on aeternity blockchain, Sophia, oracles, and state channels. More event-related news can be found in the update.

The level of engagement of the community in social networks, along with activity on the Forum, is pretty high. It was just a sneak peek for today — see You in two weeks right here! Stay sæfe!

The plan is simple, but yet effective.

  1. Build AEX9 token — AES (Aeternity Stablecoin)
  2. Build HTLC contracts compatible with Jelly Swap ->
  3. Build Jelly Swap AEX9 typescript package to allow easy development
  4. Integrate AES on Jelly Swap

The stablecoin will be backed by DAI. Having Jelly allows to use everything that Maker DAO has already build, so it is possible to use the whole infrastructure and simply expand it to be compatible with the Aeternity network.

A multi-signature contract on Ethereum will hold the collateral (in that case DAI). They are considering different options about the collateral ratio e.g. 1 DAI = 1 AES or 1.25 DAI = 1 AES or 1.5 DAI = 1 AES.

At first Jelly as an entity, will mint the AES tokens. They will assure that every AES is collateralized by the appropriate amount of DAI. At any point, one can verify that the total amount of AES is in fact collateralized by the appropriate amount of DAI since everything is on-chain. If they see a real demand on AES, they will take things further into putting more effort by “decentralizating” the minting process and keeping the collateral ratio intact. By building either a network of “operators” that will take care of that or a DAO. So, in order to create the first AES tokens, they will put initial collateral of DAI (a few thousand dollars) into the multi-sig contract. Once the DAI is in the contract, they will mint the corresponding amount of AES.

If one wants to acquire AES, he has 2 options:

  1. Go to Jelly and swap DAI/AE for AES.
  2. Deposit DAI into the multisig contract and receive the newly minted AES tokens.

About the progress:

  1. The HTLC smart contract for AEX9 is ready and can be found here — tests are about to be implemented
  2. The AEX9 typescript package is being developed.
  3. You can track the progress here.
  1. The documentation of the language is now here.
  2. The standard library documentation has been moved here. The builtin functions docs can now be found in this file (they were previously described in the sophia.md)

Changelog:

  1. aex2 support (rpc aepp<>wallet connection)
  2. bugfixes in amount formatter
  3. .chain names feature updates
  4. performance upgrades
  5. node/mdw decoupled init

and many more…
