BEAM: The first Hardfork reflections, Beam joined the Messari Disclosures Registry, A new mining guide, BitOne Trade HK has Launched BEAM

Biweekly update 16th August — 30th August

What’s up, BEAMers? We are delighted to see you here back again. During the last two weeks, team BEAM and the community have been thrilled with the significant event that occurred — the first BEAM Hardfork, featuring support for Confidential Assets, support for HTLS that enables payment channels, PoW requirement to post an SBBS message to prevent spam and a new minimum fee. After the Hard Fork occurred, team BEAM witnessed a significant drop in difficulty, the reason being that not all the miners performed a timely upgrade — read how it was from the point of a team. You can also learn how to deal with this update via the BEAM 2 Mining Guide, provided by VoskCoin. Development was represented by several enhancements on Wallets, CLI+API, Laser Beam, Android, IOS and Linux applications. Excluding merges, six authors have pushed 26 commits to master and 60 commits to all branches. On master, 92 files have changed, and there have been 4916 additions.

BEAM social activity was also impressive. The team attended F2Pool Mining Meetup in Moscow; numerous events and meetups are planned — check our update not to skip any of them! Lots of articles and videos about BEAM in many different languages have appeared recently. Read why Privacy Coin Beam Conducts First Hard Fork Away From ASICs and watch Alexander Zaidelson talking Mimblewimble, Grin, Road to Decentralization, Stablecoins, and Bitcoin. Learn why Guy Corem believes that Interest in Mining BEAM in the US is skyrocketing and what can you spend your BEAM token on. The community keeps growing — there is a stable increase in the number of subscribers in social networks. Besides, the new community art-page is available. Don’t back the wrong horse — stay with Paradigm!

Team Beam was all online at the time of the fork, constantly monitoring the health of the network and prepared for any contingency. It was a moment of suspense when block 321,320 was mined and they were all waiting to see the post-fork block 321,321 to appear. When it happened, it was a moment of joy and pride for the team.

After the Hard Fork occurred, they witnessed a significant drop in difficulty, the reason being that not all the miners performed a timely upgrade. However, in about 24 hours after the fork, the hash rate reached and eventually overcame its pre-fork value.

They implemented several important features that are consensus-breaking and can only be done as part of a Hard Fork:

  1. Support for Confidential Assets
  2. Support for HTLS that enables payment channels
  3. PoW requirement to post an SBBS message to prevent spam
  4. A new minimum fee calculated as:

10 x Num. Inputs + 10 x Num. Kernels

The minimum fee is set to 100 Groth

The meetups started in Tel-Aviv and then London and now Paris. They are intended for anyone interested in applied cryptography for privacy-preserving technology. The presentations are usually focussed on technical and practical aspects of this technology, notably its relation to blockchain technology.”
  • Beam is still on the Top of the http://2CryptoCalc.com.

“The ability to find basic information on networks and their underlying tokens will be essential to responsible growth in the industry; and we’re thrilled to be working with such a great group to move the industry forward,” Ryan Selkis, Messari’s founder, told CoinDesk. Roadmap

  • According to the recent Roadmap Update: Additional releases in the Clear Cathode version will include the following key features:
  1. One-sided payments — i.e. ability to publish a set of pre-created UTXOs and an address and get payments without the need of the recipient wallet getting online.
  2. Lightning POC
  3. Multisig Support

They also plan a bulletin board for Atomic Swaps, it is possible that this functionality will be delayed a bit. After they launch the basic Atomic Swap functionality, they will want to see how the community is using it and then decide on the best way to implement the marketplace.

Confidentiality is needed for crypto coins, stable coins, utility tokens, tokenized securities, even for crypto kitties. Their plan is to enable the issue of additional Beam Assets (or bAssets) on the blockchain.

To enable wide adoption, they will work in two directions:

  1. Bridges to Bitcoin, Ethereum and eventually other blockchains. Such Bridge will allow locking an asset on Ethereum and issuing a matching bAsset on Beam. The bAsset can then be traded between Beam wallets in full confidentiality
  2. bAsset Issuer, allowing a 3rd party to issue their own tokens on Beam blockchain. Such a token can represent any kind of value and have associated rules that will be enforced by the issuance server

It is their deep belief that any transfer and holding of value requires confidentiality. Confidentiality is needed for crypto coins, stable coins, utility tokens, tokenized securities, even for crypto kitties. The plan is to enable the issue of additional Beam Assets (or bAssets) on their blockchain.
