Biweekly update vol.23, 29th April — 13th May

TL;DR

Welcome back to Humanode biweekly! Can you believe we’re nearing the middle of May already? A lot has happened over these two weeks. Let’s have a short overview of the news!

The Humanode team has just officially announced the details of the Humanode Hackathon “Hack The Sybil!” which will be hosted on DoraHacks from June 2nd to June 15th! They are also scheduling a Demo day to show the work of the participants of the Hackathon on June 22nd, and announce the winners once the demos are concluded. The hackathon will have >30K prizes and will include a series of educational workshops that teach participants to build decentralized applications on the Humanode network. After the hackathon, applicants will be able to apply for a grant through the Humanode Grant Program which will launch in Q3 2022 after the mainnet launch. Don’t forget to join Humanode Discord to team up with other participants and keep up to date with events during the hackathon!

During these weeks, Humanode teams were working assiduously as always, making significant progress with current tasks. The progress was minutely shared in their regular development update.

As for the network development, they integrated the ‘I’m online’ pallet, added proper constants definition, enabled macro formatting as well as grouping imports, disabled matrix cache key for Docker builds, corrected and simplified the bioauthentication pallet error handling, added proper tx pool error mapping to the RPC, enabled build optimizations for Ubuntu, as well as added macOS build optimizations.

As for the Web App, the team updated the FaceTec SDK dependency and code for React 18. In the Desktop app, they throttled logs to prevent excessive rendering, changed the offline indicator to a gray color, and improved bioauthentication status.

Considering crypto-biometric search and matching and liveness algorithms, the team worked on the implementation in Python of the collective authority protocols, added Github Actions workflow, converted the pose estimation model to ONNX Runtime Web, implemented active and passive liveness detection on the frontend, and optimized facial detection model performance.

As for OAuth, the team, added a scopes list view & removed any punctuation marks from Headers, changed typography components to variants, set up customization FaceTec SDK from theme, and added Login and Consent pages.

This time, the Humanode Fireside talk took place in the Humanode Twitter space. The team discussed Humanode and universal basic income (UBI). Listen to the recording, and join the team on Wednesday for the next conversation!

Keep in mind, that the Humanode Conference will take place from May 30th — to June 1st, 2022. Join the team on Gather for a few days of keynotes, lectures, seminars, games, conversations, and a whole lot of fun, focusing on the upcoming launch of Humanode mainnet, the project’s vision, partnerships, technology, and growing as a community!

That’s all for today! Have a wonderful weekend! All the love, all the power!

Humanode testnet

Humanode Testnet V2 Public Beta

The Humanode testnet V2 ‘Shamshel’ is open to public testing.

As a reminder, this is not an incentivized testnet. You will not become a millionaire overnight while waiting for a mysterious airdrop. Instead, your pseudonymous biometric identification will be written down in history and may get a chance to slide in to become a human node for the mainnet that is scheduled to launch sometime mid-next year. You may also be able to gain opportunities to suggest, join, or get involved in various Humanode projects, and you may get a shot at some surprises down the road.

If you are not a human node yet, please press this link.

Please remember to read the guide before you attempt to install the app, as 95% of the issues can be resolved by reading the guid

Awareness & Events

Hack The Sybil! Humanode Hackathon Announcement

Originally scheduled to run from the 16th of May, the core team made an executive decision to delay the opening of the Hackathon to enable the builders to directly work with the upcoming testnet v3.

The hackathon will include a series of educational workshops that teach participants to build decentralized applications on the Humanode network.

🔺 Tech integration

Ways you integrate Humanode:

  • Humanode OAuth 2 Service: Biometric Sybil-resistance for dapps
  • Humanode chain: EVM-compatible network based on equal human nodes

There are five tracks for the Humanode hackathon:

  1. DAO: Build 1p1v or new models of governance other than token-based voting.
  2. UI/UX: Use private biometric authentication to improve web3 experience.
  3. Chain tools: Build the first generation of tools for Humanode chain exploration, analysis or dev tooling.
  4. Dapps for human nodes: Help human nodes (validators) organize, manage and automate all things connected to being an integral part of the network.
  5. Special track: There are endless possibilities across industries: social networks, art, gaming, finance, governance, public goods, and other.

🔺 Workshops

- Sybil-resistance for apps with Humanode API

- Connecting to Humanode chain

🔺 Prizes

$30,000+ in total.

🔺 Judging

All projects will be reviewed by the Humanode team to determine whether the project submissions meet the minimum level of viability with respect to theme and submission requirements according to the hackathon rules, and then will be judged by the judging panel which will be introduced shortly.

After the hackathon, applicants will be able to apply for a grant through the Humanode Grant Program which will launch in Q3 2022 after the mainnet launch. Reputable VCs and Technology partners amongst Humanode sponsors, such as Facetec and WinterMute are also here hunting for great ideas and teams, so gear up and sign up to build!

Don’t forget to join Humanode Discord to team up with other participants and keep up to date with events during the hackathon.

Humanode Conference 2022

The conference will be held on Gather (link to be shared at a later date). Stay tuned!

Humanode Fireside

In case you missed last week’s Fireside chat about Humanode and UBI, here’s the recording 🎧

As usual, there was a live talk between the team members first, and then a conversation with the community.

ICYMI: The previous Humanode Fireside was fully devoted to power of authority. Tune it on! 🔺

Listen to previous Humanode Fireside episodes on YouTube here or on the Humanode Podcast here.

Join the team for a fireside chat every odd Wednesday at 16:00 UTC in the Humanode Telegram group’s voice chat. Get in here:

Break the cycle

The long wait is finally over, the Humanode team announced a public sale! In a short film named ‘Break the cycle’ it is said that the sale is expected this summer! Stay tuned for more details!
