A biweekly update on Layer 2 protocols, 28th November — 12th December

TL;DR

EIP-4844 (proto-danksharding for L2 scaling) will be implemented after Shanghai upgrade (May/June).
Introducing the Citizens’ House: 10m OP to Public Goods: Optimism announced Retroactive Public Goods Funding Round 2. In February 2023, 10M OP the team will be distributed to the people and projects powering the public goods that make Optimism possible. Optimism’s next major upgrade: Bedrock. The team announced a public rehearsal of the migration of Optimism Goerli to Bedrock today, on December 12th. Coinbase also announced eligible customers can now send and receive ETH, DAI, and WBTC on Optimism. Twitter Space: The Optimism Foundation RetroPGF Round.

Earlier this month Boba announced that they’re shutting down their Rinkeby testnet & that they’ve already started the transition to Goerli, the recommended Rinkeby replacement testnet. Good news: Boba is now live with Goerli on mainnet. Boba announced a strategic partnership with Megaworld & welcome everybody into a brand new MegaWorld city, being built on Boba BNB L2. Polygon zkEVM achieving 99.5% EVM-equivalence. ‘Starbucks® Odyssey’ beta is now live on Polygon. After relying on The Graph’s hosted service for years, Polygon users will soon be able to rely on fully decentralized APIs to power their decentralized applications. Noir is Azec’s domain-specific language for writing zero-knowledge proofs. The team has been busy using Aztec Grants to make our fast-growing Noir ecosystem even better. The zkSync team has won an award in zprize Open Division category for Accelerating MSM Operations on GPU/FPGA. zkSync Layer 2 rollup is taking scalability on Ethereum to a new level: In an interview with Matter Labs, shared some insights on how zkSync is advancing Ethereum scalability. Scroll announced a partnership with Covalent: This partnership will enable Covalent’s data collection process to ensure latency for the most up-to-date information retrieval on Scroll’s zkEVM.
LRC staking is officially coming to Loopring L2. Dark Mode is now live on the Loopring Wallet for iOS + Android.
dYdX V4 Milestone 2 is complete: Milestone 2 was to complete all of the basic functionality needed to run the core product of the V4 exchange. Increased IMF for Select Markets: The team has increased IMF to 20% for the following markets: 1INCH, CELO, COMP, ENJ, MKR, RUNE, SNX, and UMA.
