A biweekly update on Layer 2 protocols, 29th May — 12th June

TL;DR

• The sum of all funds locked on Ethereum converted to USD is $8.27 B at the time of writing.
• Optimism Bedrock upgrade live, gas fees over 40% lower via data compression and ETH native representation. To commemorate this momentous historic and Optimistic occasion, the team released an open-edition NFT with manifoldxyz. Minting for the Bedrock NFT will close on Friday, June 16th at 11:59 PM UTC. OptimismGov released a great intro to Season 4 of Optimism Governance going over how to apply for a grant, propose a Token House Mission, take on a Foundation Mission, and co-grant alongside Optimism Grants. RFP to build zk validity prover for OP Stack.
• Arbitrum batch-poster bug caused a temporary pause in posting transactions onchain, no loss of service from a user perspective. Arbitrum time boost transaction ordering economic analysis. Norwegian government tests putting their central bank issued Krone on Arbitrum. USDC is now natively available on Arbitrum. Welcome Circle.
• Brace yourselves for Starknet’s upcoming Mainnet 0.12 Quantum Leap launch this summer. • Rhinofi is celebrating its 3rd birthday. The cross-chain Galxe quest: Rhino.fi has joined forces with Galxe. Building our bridge to Base: Be on mainnet on Day 1.
• Kinto (optimistic rollup, KYC users only) is live on testnet.
• Norswap: rollup definition debate is noise, focus on the specific security assumptions.
