A biweekly update on Layer 2 protocols, 4th August — 18th August

TL;DR

Arbitrum Nova (using AnyTrust) is open for the public; initial data availability committee includes Consensys, FTX, Google Cloud, Offchain Labs, P2P, Quicknode & Reddit. Prepare your engines, Nitro is imminent: Arbitrum One is migrating to Nitro on August 31st. Prep and test your contracts now. With Bedrock just around the corner and OP Summer beginning to take off there’s a lot to be Optimistic about. Optimism Kovan has been deprecated in favor of Optimism Goerli. On October 5th, Optimism Kovan will be fully decommissioned. To encourage all projects to migrate in advance of this deadline the team will be decreasing the rate limit on the Optimism Kovan public endpoint. Video: Optimism for non-techies. Chainlink Price Feeds are now live on Metis, helping provide the DeFi ecosystem with high-quality price data: The team announced that Chainlink Price Feeds, the industry-leading data solution for the DeFi economy, is now live on Metis Andromeda. Smart contract developers can now secure their applications with high-quality, decentralized price data natively on Metis, helping them to build highly scalable, low-cost, and feature-rich applications. Metis Marathon Community Campaign: As part of the Metis Marathon Builder Incentive program, MetisDAO foundation introduced the Marathon Community Campaign. Metis is noted for having great community support in the space, and throughout the 26-week Marathon Community Campaign, the team is rewarding community members who participate and provide exceptional support. So, What’s New in the Tree Frog Release? The Tree Frog (v0.1.0) release includes a lot of small, yet integral changes that will enhance Boba users’ overall experience as the team works to integrate the newly-released Bobascan. The makings of a legendary Bobarian.
Aztec Community Call 3 Recap. It’s been just over one month since launching Aztec Connect, the VPN for Ethereum. Here are the highlights so far. Aztec to support Nucleo in enabling private multisigs on Ethereum.
Plonky2 is now open-source: Plonky2 is one of the major recent breakthroughs in zero-knowledge cryptography. As of today, it is open-source and free for developers to use. Recently, Polygon introduced ZkEVM, an EVM compatible Zero Knowledge (ZK) rollup, during EthCC in Paris. British rock band, Muse, will release their next album as a limited-edition NFT on Serenade, an NFT platform built on Polygon. The album, called “Will of the People”, will be released on August 26. Mercedes Benz Group’s Singapore hub, Daimler South East Asia, launched Acentrik, a blockchain-based data sharing network built on Polygon. Coca Cola launched its first-of-a-kind, generative, sharable collectibles on Polygon. Polygon Avail launches on testnet to turn monolithic chains modular. Polygon is now home to over 37,000 DApps. Polygon Bridge for Gnosis Safe has arrived.

Every Monday, the team is highlighting some of the members of the growing ecosystem. zkSync joined Argent to talk about zkSync’s values, roadmap, and the powerful use-cases for Account Abstraction. dYdX free gas vulnerability disclosed, $25k bounty paid. Tornado Outage: The team was recently made aware of an issue related to Tornado that was causing many wallet addresses to be blocked from accessing the exchange. The team has rectified this and you can read the full announcement here.

Polygon

Plonky2 is now open-source: Plonky2 is one of the major recent breakthroughs in zero-knowledge cryptography. As of today, it is open-source and free for developers to use.
Recently, Polygon introduced ZkEVM, an EVM compatible Zero Knowledge (ZK) rollup, during EthCC in Paris. This would be the first Ethereum-equivalent scaling solution that works seamlessly with all existing smart contracts, developer tools and wallets. The zkEVM testnet is expected to launch sometime this summer, followed by its mainnet in early 2023.
