We don’t have to wait for the next season of Game of Throne when we can experience a ‘Game of Throne’ happening in front of our very own eyes.

For the last 2 weeks we are seeing back stabbing, crossovers, autocracy in this country which we have not seen for a very long time.

It all began after the current President Maithripala Sirisena just appointed his former party leader which he ousted in 2015 as the new Prime Minister, ousting the current Prime Minister who helped Maithirpala to come to power.

Yes you can say it a coup without arms, or going though loop holes in the constitution, what happened is now forever will have an effect in this country for years to come.

After 2 eventful week we see yet another twist of drama with the new Prime Minister leaving to join the party which he has been the shadow leader since its begining.

He’s not going alone, but he is reportedly taking more than 50 minister from the SLFP with him. This will include senior party members like the initial 16 who formed the joint opposition to younger ministers.

Is this a backstabbing done by President Rajapaksha? For what Maithripala did for him back in 2015. How will Maithripala react to this?

We are most likely to find that out in days to come.

The future of Maithripala himself now hangs in balance as to what would happen if President Rajapaksha take a majority in the next parliament? Will he impeach Maithripala to be the new President in Sri Lanka?

Even if Ranil Wickramasinge comes back to power in the next election still President Maithripala might face impeachment for what he has done for the past several weeks.

Maithripala who is expecting to run for the 2020 presidency given the current political events unfolding is unlikely to be the next president as President Rajapaksha will most probably supporting the candidate coming from his new party.

President Maithripala should have looked for a more diplomatic way to resolve the issue he had with PM Ranil Wickramasinge. With one mistake leading to another and more mistakes done to cover up one mistake, President Maithripala has got himself in a mess which he can’t untangle.

When looking at today’s events one has to think whether the President was mislead from the beginning, and whoever directing this drama has managed to erase 2 characters from a single shot, PM Ranil Wickramasinge and President Maithripala.

Can we expect a counter-coup where Ranil Wickramasinge is appointed as PM once again? Anything is possible when you see what happened during last 2 weeks.
