Every year I like going to the book fair, it has great books and all the vendors in one place, and you get to enjoy some good discounts.

However, this year I would suggest you to skip the 2018 book fair because of the following reasons, and if you have already gone to the book fair by now let me know what you think.

Everyone gives the same discount — 20%

During previous years different publishers give different offers and discounts and with some digging you can find the same book by a vendor giving the best offer.

Sometimes the offers were as much as 30% off.

But this year every vendor gives a flat-out 20% discount. Which means the price is more or less the same.

When the big bad wolf book fair gave offers up to 50% and more a couple of months ago. So why go to the CMB book fair when everyone gives the same discount?

This may be because the organizers might have thought it would give an advantage for some of the publishers who give a better discounts other will find it difficuly to compete.

The place is too crowded

CMB book fair is a popular destination for people around the country, and it is inevitably going to be crowded.

But is it worth going through all the crowd when you can only get 20% off and the prices are almost the same in every stall?

It is much easier to get the books directly from a bookstall where there is anyway going to be a 10–15% discount, or you can simply order it online and get it delivered to your home?

I just don’t feel like going through all the crowd when the prices are all the same and you can get a better experience.

The real deal was the big bad wolf, where from the prices and the experience everything was great. It also operated for 24 hours for 1 whole week.

The prices were better outside

When I tried to buy some paint material and some painting gear from the CMB book fair I actually found out that the prices were actually higher when you buy it from the CMB book fair.

I used to get the items much cheaper from Pettah, so for these items one could get a better deal from a place like Pettah than going to the CMB book fair.

I am not sure the same can be said about the books, but anyway you can get a 10–15% discount when you buy from a bookstall other than the CMB book fair.

So I think it is better just to skip the CMB book fair this time if you have not gone to it.

I hope the organizers will realize this and will change it back to the way it used to be or else more people will get disappointed about the book fair, and more people will go to places like the big bad wolf.

What is your idea about the CMB 2018 book fair?
