The unemployment rate of Sri Lanka is 4.7%, in France, it’s nearly 9.6% and Spain 17%. The unemployment rate in the USA is 4.4%, and in the UK it’s 4.3%. This means Sri Lanka’s unemployment rate is more close to US and UK and better than countries like France and Spain.

In Sri Lanka, 51% of students who graduate from universities are art graduates. Even after graduation majority of the students go unemployed and every month there is some sort of protest in Colombo asking the government to find jobs for these people.

Why graduates stay unemployed and can’t find a job?

It’s not that there are not enough jobs, if you look at a newspaper you will find that there are so many vacancies available for graduates.

Universities only teach them how to learn and do a job not how to make money

Making money using money and keeping money is totally different than just doing a job or studying. Yet that’s what majority of these university students learn at their time at university. They don’t learn anything about managing money at school or at the university. They may be good at studying but are bad at making money.

What should students do instead?

Instead of expecting everything from the government or everything for free students should understand one thing, life is hard, life is very hard.

Life is hard, making money is hard. No one is going to hand you anything for free, you have been given everything for free for 25 years of your life. It’s high time for you to start making money for yourself.

There are more than enough jobs available in the country if you know where to find them, there are so many hidden opportunities out there waiting to be exploited. Who is ready to eat shit, hustle, and grind their way to the top starting from very bottom?

The answer is no one is ready, although they have a degree they are not ready hustle, work hard, and earn their place in the society. They expect that to be handed to them for free. And guess what it won’t happen.

Don’t waste your time

Don’t waste your time. The time you spend at university is the most valuable time in your life. Isaac Newton made his greatest discoveries in his twenties, Albert Einstein founded his theory of relativity when he was 26, Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg founded their companies in their Twenties.

Your twenties are the most valuable time in your life, it is the time you can do anything in your life without worrying about the consequences. You don’t have a family to feed and you are only responsible for yourself.

Do something valuable in your twenties, save money, do well in academics or start a business of your own, find a way of making money, without expecting anything from the government or the society. Work hard, keep believing ✌️
