The cluster of small dragons and wyrm had simply appeared inside the outer ramparts. They raced across the outer courtyard and up to the inner ramparts, behind which were the royal residences and throne room. Each wyrm must have been forty ells long at least!

The wyrm slithered over the parapet. They snaked between the little dragons, and through the line of guardsmen. The tip of the one of the guardsmen’s halberd snapped off like glass when jabbed at one of the wyrm.

The cluster of small dragons all took flight and swooped down onto the ramparts between the wyrm and the guardsmen. They were all whistling tunefully in unison, drowning out Sha’Do’s song sorcery. Every guardsman stood transfixed and their halberds fell from nerveless fingers. The wyrm wove themselves together around J’Ramzœ, until he was completely obscured behind their coils.

J’Ordon’s broadsword clattered to the flagstones. But, he still moved toward the wyrm-wall, though as through treacle. His eyes glowed before he closed them and his lips moved, marshaling spells as he entered the dreamscape himself.
