Chp1, Pt 1 — The Saga of Terashan & the Crystal Empires

J’Ramzœ, the Dream Warrior, paced the ramparts, trying with his Dreamer’s Eye, to discern the heart of the writhing mass probing the edges of their defenses. He knew the power behind those black majicks. He felt if he could find the heart, he would find the enemy.

But, his power lay in the dreamscape. It was there he’d seen the truth, the dark fingers grasping his kingdom, his people, and deluding him so long. Looking normally out across the landscape, he saw the overwhelming armies marching inexorably toward his kingdom, Razrushtel at their head, the Oskvernyat Empire’s war of complete obliteration of the Hive Empire forgotten for the moment in this pursuit of revenge.

The old king K’Urson, the Vile, had fallen. The sons of his long-ago beheaded queen were themselves long buried for their failures to the old king. Unable to get sons with any of his next three successive wives — all handed over to the Collectors for their failure — the old king was almost gleeful to learn a male child was born to a concubine.

There could be no doubt the boy was K’Urson’s; it was the old king’s wont to keep a concubine on a chained lead…
