Sunlit Pergola

The broadcast is a comfort -
Radio One, bringing brightness
with aural specks of colour
to offset the absence
of the usual Student Union banter.

The pergola has been empty
for two or so hours now…
She has the sunlight to herself.

Despite the light, the winter cold
keeps her expressions close -
obscured behind azure scarf and collar.
Her eyes, like the nearby arcade screens,
fade and flicker
from her book to dreams;
her mind spiralling
to her own Fear of Flying.
