The word is formed from the two separate Tamil words Kodai and kāṉal (கானல்). kāṉal means a wood on a hill-slope, a dense forest or a closed forest.
It’s no wonder that they named Kodaikanal the way I mentioned above. It’s full of fog, it’s full of freshness and a huge lake at the top of the hill, 2000m above sea level.
Frankly, there is nothing much around the town.
I mean it.
But it’s all about the climate, lifestyle with the climate and living against the climate. I’m pretty sure that 10 to 15°C ,ain’t a number at the top of the hill, but it was pretty good enough (at-least for me).
You rent a house at the top of the hill, but it will be hard for the vehicle to take you there, it will be hard for you to climb up and down, but it’s worth the effort. Because at the end of the day, all you need is a camp fire.
It feels so fresh to be in Kodaikanal, the mist, the green view outside the cottage, the birds chirping, the dancing fog and almost everything is fresh. But that’s not nice when you start cooking the food (they said).
I was lucky enough to feel the freshness of different varieties of flowers, varieties of fruits and you know what ? there was a pear farm just nearby our cottage and due to obvious reasons we looted few of them (may be 5kg?, I don’t know). It was damn fresh that you’ll feel the cold inside when you take a bite. Ah, that was something to remember.
You know right? I hate picking up the camera, but I couldn’t control.
may be you’ll think that I looted this image from windows 7 wallpapers, but you’re wrong. Trust me, I took this one and here’s the windows 7 one.
Spending time with my parents and close relatives out there on a hill station like Kodaikanal is something very different from exploring the place alone. It’s simply about the time we spent together enjoying the climate, making superb tasty food and eating 24x7.
I just wanted to share my experience with places I’ve been and I’ll keep on doing it. I’m getting ready for a solo trip to Delhi, Agra and Bangalore by the end of this month. This is my place (my blog) and I’ll try to be active here rather than the social media profiles., keep connected. 🙃
