“A Review of the Complex Theory” is a short 1934 essay, found in Volume 8 of Carl Jung’s Collected Works, in which Jung provides an account of the psychological complex.

A complex is a structure in the unconscious psyche, which manifests through the accumulation of emotion around memories, beliefs, or desires.

Complexes are present in all individuals, and generally, all the conscious constellations of the ego have shadow aspects, which manifest as complexes.

The persona, which mediates the relation between the ego and the environment, has a very prominent complex, known as the anima or animus, and which mediates the relation to the unconscious.

We proceed with a simplified abridgement of the text.

By the way, I’m now publishing all of my book summaries under the publication Paraphilosophy. I’d really appreciate it if you could follow — it’s free. 😁
