NOTES FROM AN EDITOR
No One Wants To Work With an Entitled Writer Twice
Insight for writers
We all have an image of a solitary writer typing away at their computer. While writing involves a lot of time by oneself, it’s not a hundred percent solo; writers need other people to support, help, and hire them. But you may find yourself permanently alone if you’re hard to work with.
I’m a writer, and I’ve learned from a team of workers
As a freelance writer, I work with editors, publishers, agents, designers, proofreaders, and fact-checkers. If I submit an article or essay to a publication and it gets accepted, I’ll work with an editor and sometimes their staff.
Generally, you don't want your piece to be one-and-done if you’re writing for a publication, newspaper, or media outlet. The goal is to become a regular contributor, but to do this, you’ll need to cultivate relationships.
You want to be a respectful, easy-to-work-with, reliable writer who delivers on their promises. Unfortunately, some writers are so full of themselves that they react negatively to criticism. They’re entitled and feel that their writing is perfect and that they don’t need anyone else’s help.
