. I might be editing a story about someone’s dog, someone’s divorce, or someone’s drug issues — sometimes all three in the same essay — and Darren sends me notes and updates.

Hey Deb — you want to meet with the Medium team in April? Scott Lamb just sent a note on Medium inviting Portland publishers and editors.

Sure I wanted to meet with them! What interesting things might I learn, and could I ask questions? And would there be Voodoo donuts?

Without giving it much thought, I zipped off a note to Scott to put up my hand, and then promptly forgot about it. I had things to do. A dozen editors and publishers are on the Parasol team, and we have lots of stories to edit, not to mention stories of our own to write.

When Scott Lamb emailed me later to invite me to participate in an editors’ panel, I was excited (and maybe a little nervous).
