Each publication on Medium seems to have different rules when it comes to formatting stories. The pub editors under the Parasol umbrella have coordinated our formats to make it easier for writers to follow for all of our publications.

Every story needs to be formatted the same way — a kicker, title, subtitle, and photo. Please don’t expect the editor to do this for you. Remember, we are volunteers — this is not our job. We do it because we want to support other writers and help them become successful on the platform. For me, it is a way of paying it forward because of all the help I received when I started writing here.

I hope this information helps you to format your story properly.

#1- No Kicker or the kicker is in the wrong format

A kicker is another way to draw readers to your story. It should be more genre as opposed to a title. If you can’t think of one, please use TRAVEL MEMOIRS; likewise, use the appropriate pub name for the other pubs. It goes above the title, all caps, and if there is more than one — space, glyph (the vertical bar “|”), space.
