As nearly everyone knows, you can’t throw a stick in Los Angeles without hitting either a writer, actor or a combination of both. We may not be as gritty as those artists coming into their own in New York or Chicago, but we aren’t only about making money — some of us are interested in making art, too.

If we can create projects we’re proud of and make some money, so much the better.

Recently, my two friends, Penelope and Aliza, and I decided to take advantage of our resources of living in Los Angeles and knowing successful writers and artists. Once a month or so, we invite a professional writer to lunch, and then we ask them questions about their work.

This month, our writer was my long-time friend Alex Stein

Although I knew him as a writer, storyteller, filmmaker, teacher, and producer, I didn’t know he worked extensively in film and television development, has had scripts optioned, and continues to work as a story consultant for production companies, studios, and writers.

And that’s just the start of Alex’s impressive resume.
