Around the Block is an episodical panorama of the decentralisation movement fuelled in part by cryptocurrencies. Made of over twenty five interviews, the series aims to be more neutral (and engaging) than the content distributed by mainstream media about this industry.

It was filmed by an independent Brazilian crew between May 2017 and August 2018, in Berlin, São Paulo, New York, Rio de Janeiro and Cancun.

The goal was never to sell it to a channel, nor to sell it to end users. We tried to listen to people from backgrounds as varied as possible, and sought to abstain from any partisanship.

Among the interviewees, you’ll find names such as Sergio Demian Lerner (RSK Labs); Gavin Wood (Parity Technologies); zooko Wilcox (ZCash); Omar Bham (the Crypt0 of YouTube); Fernando Ulrich (Crypto Voices); Simon de la Rouviere (ConsenSys); Charlie Shrem and Anthony Di Iorio (Jaxx); Ashley Tyson (Web3 Foundation), Alex Van de Sande (ethereum) and more.

🎬 Episode 1: Genesis Block

“Genesis Block” begins in 1989, telling bits of the cyberpunk and peer-to-peer stories that converged onto bitcoin.

Every network begins from a single seed. The episode explores early days of the network, when Satoshi was still around and the faith of bitcoin was on the hands of a few disperse people. It goes on to dissect how usage has grown and public perception has changed in relation to the technology, in following years; before outlining some of the further visions that bitcoin inspired.

The Lab web app

The Lab’s homepage.

The Lab is a catalogue of videos on bitcoin, cryptoeconomics and decentralisation; peer-to-peer, in your browser.

On it, you’ll find series, tutorials, speeches and learn about crypto-communities beyond your own. Lab.paratii.video is also a smooth launching pad for newcomers — a great URL to send that pre-coiner friend seeking curated educational content.

Creating an account on the Lab takes under 15 seconds.

All open-source, the web app doesn’t spy on you while you browse, nor does it sell your data to the highest bidder. Streaming is peer-to-peer and competitive, but bear with us if latency is not Netflix-level yet. The Lab is a work in progress.

It is built with Paratii.JS — an open-source, web3-tailored, video streaming pipeline; and the Paratii Player; on top of IPFS and an Ethereum private net.
