“Renewables are the future, and Greece will play an important role in developing the next generation of technologies that will deepen energy diversification” Geoffrey R. Pyatt, U.S. Ambassador to Greece

In a gleaming venue at Deree – The American College of Deree during WINDMission Greece Conference, Parity Platform had the privilege to host H.E. Geoffrey R. Pyatt, US Ambassador to Greece.

During his intervention, he made insightful comments on the future of the renewables, particularly in Greece, fostering the constructive debate between energy company representatives that followed.

At the outset of his speech he stressed with the effects of climate change become clearer, wind energy and renewables are attracting more attention and investment, both in Greece and the USA. In that sense he endorsed the ongoing efforts of the Greek government to transition from Lignite to Renewable Energy. H.E. Pyatt noted that “the US stands with Greece on Renewable Energy”, and he added that US companies are already partnering with Greek companies while works on wind parks are already completed or will be soon completed, fruit of the cooperation between American and Greek companies. For example, 38.4 MW of General Electrical (GE) wind turbines have been installed in Kato Lakomata Wind Farm in Fokida developed by Nostira, while additional 100 MW of GE turbines are expected to be installed in multiple sites in Greece within 2020.

Another synergy that H.E. Pyatt pointed out was Greek company Raycap that recruits local Greek talent and “expands and invests in the rapidly growing renewable sector in US” by manufacturing equipment used in GE Wind turbines. The ambassador stated that there is plenty of room for Greek American partnership, as Greece adds weight to its role as “a regional energy integrator and guarantor of European energy security and diversity”. This could happen through “strong US support on Renewable Energy”, as H.E. Pyatt added.

The future looks bright for the renewable sector. We, at Parity Platform, strive to promote investments in the promising Renewable Energy Sources market in Greece via our digital financing platform that connects investors with projects in Greece.

We consider increasing transparency and accessibility of Renewable Energy investments to be the best way to bring out the best for the “green” energy market in Greece.
