My husband and I went to a local Parkinson’s UK meeting this week where we heard a talk about the new Beech Band — a wearable wrist device like a watch, which vibrates in a way that alleviates the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. It was created by a Parkinson’s sufferer, Mr Beech, who found it had a miraculous effect on his speech and his walking gait.

The product was developed in partnership with researchers and scientists and will be available to buy from 30 June. At the meeting, we had a chance to try it for ourselves.

My husband put the band on his wrist and immediately felt something had improved in his Parkinson’s symptoms. He walked up and down the room and felt his gait had improved.

He went to find some stairs, because going up steps tends to make him dizzy. He went up and down the full flight of steps about 5 times with this band on and didn’t get dizzy. He took it off and got dizzy first time he ascended without it.

This vibrating band is such a strange tool, but seems to work, unless we’re all experiencing mass hysteria and group think, and Mr Beech is the world’s best con man. We don’t think that’s the case.
