Promising New Drug Could Reverse Alzheimerās & Neurological Disease
Human trials begin this year
An experimental drug, known as GL-II-73, has demonstrated the ability to reverse Alzheimerās disease in mice by reversing cell damage and improving memory and recall. It also strengthened neural connections in the brains of the mice.
The study was conducted by the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH). Researchers are working with start up company, Damona Pharmaceuticals, to try and commercialise the drug, so it has financial backing and widespread distribution, should it be successful.
The report on the CAMH website says: āUnlike many existing drugs that target beta-amyloid buildup, GL-II-73 selectively targets GABA receptors in the hippocampus to restore brain function and repair damaged neural connections. Early studies also suggest the drug shows promise for other mental health conditions associated with cognitive impairment.ā
They have now received clearance for human trials and will begin testing on humans this year (2025). Read full details hereā¦
