The day Rush Limbaugh died

The sewers of the world were closed
in memoriam,
and somewhere, the Devil
was lighting his cigar.

Imagine the Hindenburg disaster
as the walking embodiment
of a man, pinstriped suit
stretched tight as a zeppelin
filled with flammable gas,
only methane.

Imagine that man
puffing his smoke, chuckling
like a chimney
given the grace of a throat,
tossing Molotov cocktails
and flaming dung
through the open windows
of every radio friendly home.

His microphone steeped in piss,
he’d Cheshire grin and hiss,
a soothing serenade
of radical neoliberal comeuppance,
this talk show pioneer
paved the way
for the propagandists,
an entire new wave
of yellow papered press.

The dead have no remorse.
Pin the medals on his corpse.
Spin the carousel of lights again,
and wait for the music
to magically erase
the history of his sin.
