Welcome. This publication is new and wants to be the next home for your most salient work. I started Parlor Tricks because I saw an opportunity to create a political news publication for Medium that welcomes the voices of the people on the ground closest to the action, not just those who observed the news, but those who lived it.

There is also an abundant need for people to be heard outside of the realm of the mainstream media, which has become inundated with bias and blatant propaganda, to the point that much trust has been lost in the integrity of journalism. While it is important to always be free with opinion, it is also important to separate opinion from fact. Corruption exists in all forms of politics, and it should always be exposed.

These were lofty goals. As the publication has progressed, it has swayed more to focus primarily on political satire. Satire is difficult to get right, and therefore it is rare to come across this genre done with a degree of proficiency.

The political arena has become so outrageous and rife with BS that all anyone can do to retain their sanity is laugh at it. Laughter is good medicine. In these trying times, let’s laugh together at the lunacy of our political divide.
