Victor Cripes at Wright St, Mt Evelyn Vic

A balmy evening in Melbourne’s outer eastern suburbs found us in Len’s meticulously decorated shed. Music posters of Roberts Johnson, BB King and Bob Dylan on the ceiling, guitars hung on walls and an enviable record collection all pointed to an unashamedly enthusiastic music fan.

With the shed door lifted, Victor Cripes entered and set up a busking unit that looked so at home inside that shed, it looked like it’d always been there.
With a beaten up cigar-box guitar, a customized amp that sounds dirtier than a couple of copulating gorillas all topped off with some blues flute, which has much more grunt than you’d think.

On their final song, Matt and Pete of Victor Cripes invited Len up to play some harmonica with them. A great way to end the evening, a merging of host and artist and a mutual love of music, specifically blues.
