It is now the beginning of July. Only 10 days more before we depart for Italy. We are most appreciative of being able to stay with my former college roommates, Eve and Ken, for our last days in Madison. The evening of Friday, July 1, 2016, we all dined at Eve’s mom’s house. While we waited for the last of the dinner preparations to be completed, Larry and I went with Ken to see his gardens. Ken has a large garden plot near his mother-in-law’s house. There were still a few sugar snap peas on the vines. How sweet!

School Garden

Behind Eve and Ken’s house is a local elementary school. Volunteers, business sponsors, school faculty and students have established a small vegetable and flower garden at the back of the school property. The colorful signage caught our eye. What a fun way for children to learn about and appreciate the food and flowers they grow.

Saturday Farmers’ Market

Every Saturday morning, the Dane County Farmers’ Market takes over the Capitol Square in Madison. The Wisconsin Capitol is a very beautiful building. Eve and Ken have made it their tradition to go to the Saturday Farmers’ Market every Saturday while it is in season.

We joined them early the morning of July 2, 2016. It tends to get quite crowded, but we were able to make it around the Square, snapping photos to capture the produce, flowers and other products on that beautiful Saturday morning. We also had the chance to see Tricia Bross, the farmer who owns Luna Circle Farm. We had supported her farm by buying a share of her Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) for the past several years. She has the best onions and basil!
