Everyone needs people’s appreciation. What do you think about it? In our surroundings, not many people appreciate what you do in the daily life. Actually, many people serve us in different aspects like the building security, restaurant waiter and cook, supermarkets sales, teachers and parents… We try to appreciate their effort just say thank you and good job. It can let them feel motivated to continue doing their job efficiently.

It is the same that the client needs our appreciation. It let them think more positive in their life. Especially to those are low-motivated youth, they need people giving chance and be affirmative to their effort.

1) Giving positive feedback

During the counseling, I always find out the strengths of the client and appreciate them. It can let them think more positive first. Positive feedback with sincere attitude is necessary. They may know more about their positive side of the life instead of blaming by others.

2) Acknowledging their effort

It is important to recognize the hard work that the clients have already paid. Actually, most of the client’s works are neglected by others. For example, some clients are good at doing Lego instead of studying but the parents disagree that they waste time for playing. However, doing Lego may train their concentration and give them space for any creativity.

3) Appreciating them immediately

When we see just a little bit thing the clients do, we must appreciate them immediately rather than a week later. Clients may feel what you really recognize them in the process of their effort. For example, the client tries his best to talk with the strangers, we must appreciate them immediately so that he will be more confidence to do it next time.

In my conclusion, using appreciation skills are very important in the counseling time. It can be good way to build trust with each other and let clients think more positive with hope.
