London’s Dickensian Christmas
A social guide to winter wonderland
London at Christmas is like Paris in August. Or Oktoberfest in October. Everywhere in central London at this time of year you will see crowds of tourists from all over the world. In December, the city is transformed into a magical winter wonderland, with twinkling lights, decorated streets, pop-up Christmas markets and cheerful carols.
Central London is especially beautiful in the winter, with lots of lights, decorated shops and the general atmosphere is great. However, if you are visiting London at this time of year, you should be aware of possible inconsistencies and shortcomings to avoid disappointment.
There are several reasons why I view Christmas in London with a certain amount of criticism (this is by no means about the spiritual component of the holiday). In this post I would like to share with you my observations from several years of living in London.
