What are the needs of youth in counseling?

In our society, there have many different needs of youth come from the academy, family and social relationship. As the speed of the society is fast with high demanding, we need to study well in order to have better career in future. The requirements of academy are quite high that some of the youth may not be achieved. It will let to the failure and loss during their study. Moreover, the stress may be come from the family as the parents have high expectations towards them. Furthermore, for the competition among the peers, some of the youth may lose the recognition from their friends. During the counseling, the youth need the following things:

1) Emotional Support

They need our emotional support for dealing with the issues such as anxiety, depression and self-esteem. It is a good opportunity to let them express their feelings and seek understanding and empathy during the counseling time.

2) Interpersonal and Relationship Building

We can help them learn social skills and build healthy relationships with others. Try to let them understand more about their communications problems with the parents and friends. We give them some suggestions for how to improve the interpersonal relationships.

3) Values Clarification

We try to discuss with them their personal values and analyze the influence of social values like the message from social media. Then, we help them develop the ability to think independently and make sound of judgements.

4) Self-awareness Enhancement

It is important to help them understand their own personality traits and strengths and weaknesses. Then, give them chance to improve their self-management skills and strengthening self-regulation abilities as well.

By proving support and guidance in the above areas, counseling can help young people better cope with the challenges of growth and achieve more healthy development.
