Say “I Love You” with a bouquet of a dozen Bubba Kush buds, instead of roses? According to the founder of 1–800-Flowers, Jim McCann, it’s a real possibility.

While marijuana has a ways to go before surpassing mums, statistics indicate there is competition in the greenhouse. According to numbers compiled by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis Personal Consumption Expenditures, floriculture item sales hit $31.3 billion last year. Compared to cannabis sales at $7 billion.

McCann spoke to Fortune about how some of his local growers are considering making the switch to a different kind of flower, and how he’s not dismissing the threat.
