Our team is taking part in the 18th European Week of Regions and Cities. We are pleased to invite you to our virtual Q&A session “Catching the Deliberative Wave” (13th October, 9:30–10:30).

Register here by 27 September.

Regions are at the forefront of innovative citizen participation approaches that are representative and deliberative, designed in a way that allows citizens to contribute informed, collective recommendations to policy makers. In a world of complexity and democratic disillusionment, such processes can help decision makers take hard decisions and build public trust.

Our session will provide inspiration and tools for regions to reap the benefits of innovative citizen participation and catch the deliberative wave. The session will introduce the benefits of using these processes for policy making and various models that have been popular regionally.

Claudia Chwalisz and I, the authors of the international OECD report “Innovative Citizen Participation and New Democratic Institutions: Catching the Deliberative Wave”, will also cover some of the most exciting examples of how to institutionalise citizen deliberation that have been successful at the regional level — including Ostbelgien, Brussels, Vorarlberg and others.

We look forward to seeing you there!
